I consider myself a contemporary realist watercolor painter. My paintings are inspired by the bayous and swamps of Louisiana as well as the lush scenery of the south in general. Although my work is primarily in watercolor, I have recently developed an interest in pastels and am expanding my work to include the medium.

I have since studied with watercolor artists Tom Jones, Judi Betts and internationally known Master Artist, Joseph Zbukvic.

Growing up in rural New Iberia, Louisiana along the Bayou Teche, art was part of my existence as long as I can remember. As the oldest of six children, art was an escape that would put me into a different place and time. When the time came for a career choice I was steered into commercial art as there were not many opportunities in fine art in the late 60’s. After receiving an art scholarship, I studied commercial art at Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, Louisiana. In the late 70’s I studied oil painting with Millie McKnight in Broussard, Louisiana and subsequently pursued a career in advertising.

In the late ‘80s I changed careers and began working in the legal field as a paralegal.  With the growing need for creativity, I turned to watercolor. Watercolor painting always intrigued me so armed with a knowledge of color and design I found a new love in watercolor painting. Once again, I was able to escape into another place, the place of imagination and creativity.

My paintings are inspired by the bayous and swamps of Louisiana as well as the lush scenery of the south in general. I am especially drawn to shrimp boats and the individuality of each. Shrimping has been a part of life for south Louisiana since the Acadians came down from Nova Scotia, the gulf coast as well as the bayous and tributaries of Louisiana were a natural source of sustenance for the settlers who first used large nets brought from France to catch shrimp either in small boats or by wading in shallow waters. Still today, some fishermen shrimp the inland waters and bayous and those with larger shrimp boats fish the offshore waters of the Gulf.
